Irina Gusakova x Igor Termenon
In this visual series, the story of Irina Gusakova’s AW17 collection is told through its lookbook photographer Igor Termenon’s personal project ‘I Used To Live Here’. The laidback yet adventurous attitude of Glasgow’s urban youth is portrayed through fragments of the place itself.
Based in Glasgow, fashion label Irina Gusakova has a contemporary take on classic European cuts. Her design is strongly influenced by the practicality of workwear and sportswear. The designer’s transition from designing womenswear to menswear resulted into this unisex collection, in which both high quality construction and meticulous attention to the detailing and finishing of men’s garments, and external decorative elements of women’s garments are present. Functionality and comfort to the wearer inspired her transition to menswear design.
A strong emphasis on high quality of fabrication and materials is the overarching idea of the collection. Subtle reference to Op Art can be found in the prints used in the outerwear linings and on sweatshirts, hoodies and silk tops.
For men and women with strong sense of individual identity and understated yet adventurous style, the collection offers basic minimalist wardrobe essentials enlivened by subtle yet surprising detailing in the garment.
Based in Edinburgh, Spanish photographer Igor Termenon documented the places he lived in between 2009 and 2011. During those three years, he lived in five cities in two different countries - Glasgow, Edinburgh and Liverpool in the UK, Ponferrada and Gijón in Spain. While living in those places, the word ‘home’ lost its significance to him. Location being an important element in Termenon’s work and storytelling, he described the series ‘I Used To Live Here’ as a way to collect memories: “I really didn’t know where I was going to end up next and the photos were a way to collect different memories and try to find a place I could actually call home.”
