STYL.MYL. x Leonardo Magrelli
Leonardo Magrelli’s photo series ‘Meerror’ shows what mirrors reflect when we are not in front of them. These unseen and almost vanishing images inspire a visual conversation with STYL.MYL.’s design, which often adds unexpected cuts and details to the garments. Through still life images, the series addresses the current era of selfies - the acknowledgement versus the denial of our own image. In the same era, STYL.MYL. designs to emote a certain nonchalant attitude, for the young-at-hearts who are unapologetic about expressing their uniqueness and individuality.
Pronounced as "sty-lo-my-lo", the Singapore based brand is inspired by a colloquial term used to describe someone with an unusual sense of style. Synonymous with this expression, STYL.MYL. fuses both eastern aesthetics and western sensibilities into its largely genderless designs. The brand designs with an experimental spirit coupled with meticulous engineering and timeless minimalism.
Functionality and comfort are the key considerations in the creation of the FW2016 collection. As such, utilitarian features such as cargo pockets, metal casted buttons, and an earthy color palette are omnipresent throughout the entire lineup. While sporting a more relaxed vibe, the collection stays original to the brand's DNA, which are clean lines and superior finishing.
Leonardo Magrelli’s photo series ‘Meerror’ (Me-Error) consists of a series of photos taken facing a mirror without the photographer being reflected in it. It allows us to observe reality without alterations, which we can never witness ourselves, because every time we step in front of a mirror, the image that was reflected a moment before is modified by our appearance. By removing ourselves, the self-portrait becomes still life. “In my photography there is always the urge of taking pictures unseen, almost vanishing,” stated Magrelli. Creating images that are both the things and none at the same time triggers the special mechanism of this series.
