Müskinn x Joana Polónia
Design label Müskinn’s fun and daring collection of transparent bags are brought together with Photographer Joana Polónia’s travel journals. The colourful yet light-hearted work of both artists are almost their manifesto of their adventurous spirits.
Joana Polónia is a professionally trained architect and a self-taught photographer. Her travel journal contains some of recent photos as well as images taken two to three years ago. Polónia described these photos as “strangely meaningful” to her because of their untold stories. The photos often feature strangers in strange places. It is often unclear where the photo was taken or how long the journey was. Polónia had grown fond of the oddness, as she has always been naturally drawn to mystery and chance. She told us: “I may not exactly remember where I ate or how long it took me to get to the airport but I do remember the people I met along the way.”
People are also key to the Hungarian label Müskinn; they create bag collections for everyday use, with its user clearly in mind. They create sustainable collections focused on diversity and self-love. Their aim is to create comfortable and simple accessories for everyday use.
Müskinn never works with professional models for their campaigns, because they believe this emphasizes their focus on diversity and self-acceptance. Their models are unique and strong individuals who come from different environments. People who trusted and allowed Müskinn to photograph them in beautiful known and unknown parts of Budapest - adding to the intimacy of the Müskinn collections. Building on this, their transparent bag collection advertises: “show who you are, show what you’ve got!”
Müskinn often collaborates with inspirational people who have different areas of expertise. They organise events together and/or they create collections together. This way they build bridges with people they otherwise wouldn’t have met and they get in touch with new interesting subjects. They feel these connections broaden their perspectives. The social, scientific and/or art-related projects also supports what Müskinn stands for and what they find interesting and important as well.
