Stutterheim x Adam Geary
Stutterheim draws inspiration from Italian design group The Memphis Group and 70’s military surplus aesthetics for its AW16 collection. The eye-catching color combinations are highlighted by photographer Adam Geary’s photo series ‘Light Years’, as it takes us on a journey through the city through quiet abstractions of everyday urban life.
For AW16, Swedish luxury outerwear company Stutterheim takes an important next step by introducing a line of coats in exclusively developed waterproof bonded cotton, as an addition to their iconic rubberized cotton styles. The collection stays true to its heritage of Scandinavian minimalism, while playing with new design elements and surprising color combinations.
Developed under supervision of the Stutterheim design team, the bonded cotton is a true technical innovation; a fabric that breathes and at the same time is water resistant, with an exclusive and natural feel.
The material is created by fusing two layers of cotton with a core membrane, making it hydrophobic, and still retaining the breathing abilities of the cotton. This fabric innovation has allowed Stutterheim to create true year-round rainwear.
Adam Geary’s photographs tell the story of his city, with the distances travelled measured in light. He captures conventional shapes in abstractions as a reflection of everyday urban life: car park lines, yellow flowers strewn under a tree, concrete globes casting a shadow on the waters edge. All of his images cropped hard to pull them out of context, to relieve ourselves of their meaning, to induce a quietness, a moment of reflection amidst the frenetic life of the city. In his own words, “There is not enough silence in our cities. The rumours of the past rustle in our ears and compete with the noise of the present. Occasionally the light reveals itself and quiet moments appear.”
