THISISNON x Annick Ligtermoet
The timeless and dark character of THISISNON’s ‘Black Wool’ collection is brought to light by the ‘Nocturnes’ series of artist Annick Ligtermoet. The photo series documents winter days in Finland where time seems to go slower and the world feels isolated by a thick black haze.
THISISNON’s collections always carry a sense of timelessness. Regardless current trends, the Warsaw based label creates perfectly tailored clothes for everyday life that allow user’s the freedom to focus on more important matters. Offering only a few essential pieces, THISISNON runs against the grain of seasonal fashion, while encouraging respect for the world’s resources and professional craftsmanship. Each piece is constructed with true respect to form and human proportions, revealing the architectural background of the label’s founders. No pattern and decorative closures, nothing but raw, supreme tailoring with clean lines, few cuts and minimal stitching that culminate in a noble silhouette.
THISISNON’s collection ‘Black Wool’ is based on a thorough study of wool, its complex structure, finish and density. The chosen fabrics for this collection are thick pure merino wool, smooth gabardine and delicate alpaca. These fabrics form a small gallery of wool’s various forms, showing its natural beauty and wonderful versatility.
Photo series ‘Nocturnes’ by Dutch photographer Annick Ligtermoet consists of a collection of Finnish landscapes. Having moved to Finland in 2012, Annick became fascinated with the contrast between light and darkness and the influence it has on the psyche. After experiencing a couple of winters in Finland Ligtermoet felt the need to document the endless winters: “Every day you come outside the world is dark and foggy. It is one of the most difficult things about living in this country.” The series shows an intriguing duality: a kind of melancholy that is sometimes pleasant and sometimes just plain depressing. “When the nights are longer than the days, darkness clouds the senses. The lack of information puts your mind to sleep; a mental hibernation that is brutally awakened by the endless days of summer.” Ligtermoet says, “By now I’m more accustomed to the moon than to the sun.”
