Ratna Ho x Naomi White
The essence of RATNA HO’s vegan bags is crystallized in the equally technical and pictorial compositions of Naomi White’s photographic series Plastic Currents. This is luxury meets sci-fi - watch and be amazed!
An extended range of colors, coatings and textures are explored by the talented RATNA HO, who is aspired to design clothing and accessories for the sophisticated, modern woman. Age is not at play here - it's all about your inner energy. As they greatly highlight the personal style of the wearer, the handbag collection is intended for use on a daily basis, balancing the practicalities of everyday life with an electrifying high-end allure. The team gathered around the design of these luxed-up accessories shares a common work ethic - commitment, quality, and a sense of responsibility to the environment, are all at the heart of the label's offerings.
Alongside the visuals of the collection is a series by the artist and photographer Naomi White. As she expertly explains "a current is a continuous, directed movement of water generated by the forces acting upon it, such as the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon. Interaction with other currents transforms a current's direction and strength".
In this series, Plastic Currents, White endeavors to explore the infinite possibilities of the material of plastic. Showing an acute interest in how plastic responds to human touch she introduces us to an aesthetic and almost scientific exploration. By taking a token of hyper consumerism out of its original context, White urges viewers to examine the transformation power of a photograph - turning a banal object into an entity from an alternative reality – and questions our role in its effects.
All the items crafted by RATNA HO use high end, recycled textiles originally intended for architectural projects, which are further enhanced by high frequency, ultrasonic welding, These are implemented at the manufacturing facilities of Buitink Technology who state "We aim to transform as much residual material as possible into durable, functional bags and accessories." That Eco-Logic approach aligns with the work of White and RATNA HO, as the two projects both demonstrate new possibilities. As plastic bags are visually altered by light, their fluid and vibrant shapes “mimic the very organic nature they put at risk.”
