Dutch Design and Authentic African Prints

Afriek

Brainy explorers Sivan and Kars met each other in the land of a thousand hills, in the midst of the city of Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. There they discovered the unique handmade garments made by talented tailors of this city. Afriek was born out of in-depth scientific research, African sun and a little luck.

The fashion label and creative project between Sivan and Kars aims to apply an African state of mind to a Western wardrobe.

By reimagining the African continent’s cultural heritage in a way that brings together fashion and ethnic cultures, Afriek hopes to create a counter-reaction to the current conceptions about the two worlds.

Afriek is very proud to reveal the story of their craftsmen and their efforts to make our very own Afriek blazers that are made in Kigali wher an uncountable number of tailors live. Rwandan people love custom-made clothes. Kars and Sivan select  the fabric at local markets together with the tailors, they discuss their favorite design and together they create a unique piece of fashion. This personal tailoring results in close contact between owner and maker.

The womenscollection is designer by the Dutch talented designer Lisa Konno - Afriek combines Dutch Design with African prints in the best way possible: Afriek makes you aware of what you wear and where it came from, a lost value in our Western fashion culture.
