"We wanted to make a visual time capsule for Noor, graduating with her masters in Aerospace Engineering (AKA rocket science) during the times of Corona. Capturing this unique moment in time could only be done justice on film. Even normal graduates can be overwhelmed and anxious about the future. This worldwide pandemic has really heightened that uncertainty.
However, rather than focusing on the bleakness, we chose to take a lighthearted, humorous approach. We juxtaposed a student swamped with responsibilities but choosing to procrastinate instead. The beautiful thing about shooting on film is the way it facilitates the suspension of reality. We shot this piece in an anachronistic way, so that the specific time and era is not too distinguishable.
A • Brandsma handmade each outfit for Noor, so we went to the beach with some short ends and shot this film as Noor was awaiting her final thesis results. Hopefully, she can watch this time capsule and fondly look back on these uncertain times: how it was the start rather than the end of an exciting era."
