Swimwear and Lingerie label Collar’s SS17 collection ‘Athirst’ plays upon the elements of heat and drought, conveying an image of a young woman wandering in an imaginary desert, tired and parched with thirst. The inspiration of the collection is reflected through photographer Alex Muriana’s series ‘The Shadow’s Thirst’, documenting the ongoing desertification process in Eastern Andalusia.
The Latvia based label Collar wishes to bring back the covert, concealed intimacy in a time when the female body is hyper–sexualized. The label believes in the beauty of unconventionality and strives to dress the personality not a body type, encouraging women to love their skin, their being and the tiny imperfections fully and honestly. Merging high functionality with exceptional quality, Collar creates swimwear and lingerie pieces that are sculptured to perfectly enclose the silhouette.
The SS 17 collection ‘Athirst’ reflects the essence of our time and being – it is a symbol of the continuous thirst for time of the modern human, our aspiration for balance, fulfillment, success and desires that lead to getting scorched from time to time.
On the theme of drought and thirst, photographer and graphic designer Alex Muriana captures the landscape of Eastern Andalusia, one of the areas with the highest risk of desertification in the Iberian Peninsula. Water is already a scarce commodity. Technical progress has ensured that drinking water continues to supply households but human activity and its uncontrolled exploitation of aquifers and wells has accelerated a process of irreversible desertification in which rainfall is increasingly scarce and harmful. ‘The Shadow´s Thirst’ is a project in which the landscape is the protagonist. Jaén, Granada and Almería are the provinces that form the eastern triangle of Andalusia. This is where the desertification process is most visible.
