MESHIT is an Austrian fashion label created by Ida Steixner and Lena Krampf. As suggested by its name, the designer duo enjoys experimenting with contrasting aesthetic codes and cultural concepts. Tapping into the world of youth culture, their designs combine clean shapes and special detailing by playfully ‘meshing’ or fitting together distinct elements into one unique design.
MESHIT’s Spring / Summer 2016 collection is inspired by two dance movements from the 70s – the British “Northern Soul Movement” and the “American Disco Scene”. The dancers from the legendary TV show “Soultrain” became the major influence on the collection.
The overlapping point of both scenes was soul music. While the British youth went out to forget their hard working life, the dancers of “Soultrain” performed their best dance moves in outstanding outfits, to distinguish themselves.
The story on youth’s sense of freedom is depicted subtly through photographer Kate Riep’s images. She documents what she encountered on the road, delicately tabbing in a brisk and free spirited 70s ambience. Brief moments of tranquility were carefully frozen and preserved – either when it’s a moment of quiet within the rush and excitement of being on the road, or when a light breezes on the skin on an airy summer day out with friends. In both youth culture and Kate’s work, it is about change, challenges, transition, tremendous courage and the will for a selfdetermined life and freedom.

Tapping into the world of youth culture, their designs combine clean shapes and special detailing by playfully 'meshing' or fitting together distinct elements into one unique design. Tight and oversized volumes, and rogynous shapes and sensual fabrics, classic attire and edgy finishes blend together, allowing each individual to?create their own original style.
Appealing particularly to the young and urban trend-conscious crowd, their imaginative collections include easy-to-wear outfits as well as more singular pieces for the fashion daring.
About Kate Riep
Kate Riep is a 1979 born, living and working in Berlin. She currently studies Photography at Ostkreuzschule Berlin where she will be graduating from this year.
Kate’s photography awakes the impression that there is always something unseen and somewhat unsettling around the corner. There is a storyline unfolding behind the stills and as you view each image, you become a silent accomplice, witnessing the moment just before the storm breaks. Her work aims to keep you entwined in the images, constantly wondering what, who, why, and imagining your own version of the rest of the story.
